A lime supplier moves their product from a large scale coastal production plant to large regional consumption facilities. Rail transport provides the low cost base load, with supplementary capacity on road trucks. The 200 to 700km journeys have been in an aging fleet of dry powder pneumatic discharge rail wagons. The production plant has experienced difficulty with achieving adequate payloads in the wagons because of low bulk density of the product and because of its unusually steep angle of repose when loaded into wagons.

Isotainers Australia has assisted the company to achieve increased payloads in existing wagons by applying air blasts to the bottom of wagons during loading. We have also demonstrated how it is possible to substantially increase payload per wagon when the dedicated wagons are replaced by standard flat top rail wagons carrying our ISOTAINER Model ITV-27-4.

Special access platforms and handrails were developed to allow safe height access for 3 containers to operate on the available rail wagons.

The ISOTAINER Model ITV-27-4 is fully within gauge, and CSC certified for shipping on container vessels, with stacking capacity rated to 9 high loaded. It is also certified as compliant for ISO1496.3 Amendment 1, (dynamic testing for longitudinal restraint, or “crash testing”) which demonstrates its capability for long term durability in rail operations.
