A large cement company distributes its products from a production facility on the mainland to a small market on an island state. Past practice used some special-purpose cubical containers, which were filled at the plant, transported by road to the port, shipped to the island, transported by road to a depot, and then decanted into a silo. Product was then loaded to pneumatic road tanker trailers for delivery to customers at ready-mixed concrete batching plants across the island.
ISOTAINERS Australia provided it’s model ITV-27-4 containers which allowed the cement company to simplify the logistics task and put a stop to the rising costs of the complex delivery task. Containers filled at the cement plant were able to be transported by road to the mainland port, shipped to the island, then delivered directly to customer sites on skeletal trailers. Standardisation of the equipment allowed new contractors to provide competitive delivery costs on the island. Rail distribution of the containers to the major population centres on the far side of the island was then offered to provide further cost saving.
The ISOTAINER Model ITV-27-4 is fully within gauge, and CSC certified for shipping on container vessels, with stacking capacity rated to 9 high loaded. It is also certified as compliant for ISO1496.3 Amendment 1, (dynamic testing for longitudinal restraint, or “crash testing”) which demonstrates its capability for long term durability in rail operations.
The low tare weight and high volumetric capacity of the ISOTAINER Model ITV-27-4 allows the cement company to achieve high payloads and the lower unit rates for transport that result.
