A large cement company moves cement from their coastal production plant to a distribution depot in the centre of an intensive mining region. Rail transport provides the low cost base load, with supplementary capacity on road trucks. The 700km journey was in a mixed fleet of dry powder tank containers which included several brands of owned and rented equipment as well as some dedicated cement rail wagons.
Isotainers Australia provided it’s Model ITV-27-4 containers for evaluation. The cement company was able to take advantage of the high volume and low tare weight of the ISOTAINER Model ITV-27-4. Average payload per container increased by 10%.
The depot keeps detailed records of unloading times for each container. The company was able to reduce unloading time for the train by as much as 4 hours because of the much faster unloading rates of the ISOTAINER Model ITV-27-4. Existing units were operating at 0.7 to 1.0 tonnes per minute and the ISOTAINER Model ITV-27-4 discharged at over 1.4 tonnes per minute with consistently more complete discharge.
The ISOTAINER Model ITV-27-4 is fully within gauge, and CSC certified for shipping on container vessels, with stacking capacity rated to 9 high loaded. It is also certified as compliant for ISO1496.3 Amendment 1, (dynamic testing for longitudinal restraint, or “crash testing”) which demonstrates its capability for long term durability in rail operations.
The company has purchased ISOTAINER Model ITV-27-4 containers to replace all of its rental fleet, as well as covering for other units which are out of service due to cracking caused by repeated rail fatigue loading.
